Big Hickory Waterfront Grille & Marina, a long-time fixture on Hickory Bay at the north end of Bonita Beach, has released preliminary plans to reopen in a new location. The original location was destroyed last year by Hurricane Ian, and the parcel was sold to the Bonita Springs Fire District for construction of a new station. The new location will be built on a parcel on the north side of Bonita Beach Rd, next to the 7/11 close to the intersection of Imperial Shores Blvd.
Big Hickory’s owners say the new location will have more indoor seating as well as waterside dining. In addition to the restaurant and bar, there are plans for a “sweet shop”, that will bake all of the desserts for the restaurant as well as be an ice cream shop and candy store. There are also plans for other retail spaces on the property which may include a coffee shop and another regional concept sandwich shop.
The project’s owners are seeking variances from the city of Bonita Springs for the setback of the restaurant, as well as for the location of parking and the number of parking spaces.
